COVID19 Isolation Recommendations

People with COVID-19 are recommended to self-isolate for 5 days, even if their symptoms are mild.

If it is necessary to leave home during the 5 day isolation period, it is important they take precautions to prevent spreading COVID‑19 to others. Recommend to the patient that they:
wear a mask whenever leaving the house.
not visit any healthcare facility (except to access medical care) or aged residential care facility, or have contact with anyone at risk of becoming seriously unwell with COVID‑19. call ahead before visiting if they need to seek medical care, and follow the instructions provided.

If their symptoms have resolved after the recommended 5 days of isolation, they can return to normal activities on Day 6. Wearing a mask is recommended until the end of Day 10 if visiting healthcare or aged residential care facilities or if having contact with anyone at risk of becoming seriously ill with COVID‑19, as some people remain infectious for up to 10 days.

If they are still symptomatic on Day 6, they are recommended to stay at home until they recover. If, between Days 6 and 10, they are still symptomatic and it is necessary to leave the home, the same recommendations apply as during the first 5 days of isolation. You would start your isolation at Day 0 β€” this is the day your symptoms started or when you tested positive, whicheverΒ cameΒ first.
